Potty!

I have been meaning to blog about this! We have not officially started potty training Elle but earlier in the month, we introduced her to the potty. She was having loose bowel movements then (from teething) and got diaper rashes from it so I figured that it won't hurt if we introduce her to the potty. Elle pretty much does her "business" every morning after her first bottle and within half hour after she wakes up. Since she is pretty much on schedule, it helped with the "potty training". Since Elle is a creature of habit, I thought it will be helpful to slowly get her used to using the potty and slowly associate pee and poop with the potty. Hopefully, it will help when we officially potty train her. During the first weekend that we tried this, she did #1 and #2 during two successive mornings! Basically, we just let her sit on the potty and entertain her by reading books while we wait for her to do her business. I also try to make the "psssss" or "uhmmmm uhmmm" sound :-P. I remember my mom used to do that when she was potty training us when we were kids and it helped us "go" :-P. When Elle eventually pees or poops, Daddy Jarbs and I clap our hands and sing "pee pee in the potty, pee pee in the potty" or "poo poo in the potty, poo poo in the potty" :-). We try to make a big deal out of it so she can slowly associate pee/poop with potty and encourage her to do it every time she's sitting there. After she goes, we immediately take her out of the potty and I wash her in the bathroom. I LOVE it because it is so mess-free. No messy poopy diaper changes! Everything goes straight to the potty so all we have to worry about is flushing the pee/poop in the toilet and sanitize her potty.

Here she is doing her business. She was actually reading the Filipino newspaper :-P.

For the last couple of weekends, we were not able to have her sit on the potty so I was worried that she may have already forgotten how to use it. I sat her there yesterday and this morning and both times, she went!! I am not sure if it's pure coincidence but one time, a minute after I did the "psssss" sound, she pee'd! I was so proud! lol. I wish we can have her sit on the potty every morning especially on week days. It is impossible for us though since our week day mornings are stressful given that we have to scramble out to go to work and daycare. For now, we'll continue to do this on weekends and enjoy the mess-free poopy diaper changes :).
